The Visual Arts develop student's conceptual thinking within a range of practices which at Kaikoura High School includes drawing, painting, printmaking, design and at some senior levels can include photography. Students explore, refine, and communicate ideas as they connect thinking, imagination, senses, and feelings to create works and respond to the works of others. Artists and art history are included as this allows students to observe and learn about a range of artists, artworks and theories in the arts.
Achievement standards are the only credits available in the Visual Arts at Kaikoura High School.
From 2011 the number and titles of these standards is set to change.
Year 11, Level 1 standards will change in 2011 with Year 12, Level 2 changing in 2012 and Year 13, Level 3 in 2013.
As the standards that will be available are still in the draft stages it is unknown yet which ones will be offered at Kaikoura High School.
Having said that, there will definitely be one and possibly two internal standards offered and definitely an external folio done.
More details of the standards on offer will be available when they have been finalised by the Ministry of Education.
