Welcome to My Judo Website!
If you are interested in where the clubs are in the South Island, go to the South Island Clubs page. If you're interested in how to play judo you could go to the Rules page. My final page is about Kyle Rayner. As well as being my brother, he is a very good judo player for the Kaikoura Club. If you would like to play judo, this page also lists the different kinds of competitions available.
Judo has been practised for 129 years in Japan. The creator was a Japanese man called Jigoro Kano (his photograph is shown at the right). Judo became very popular with a lot of people in Japan who took up this sport to carry on his legacy. It has now been taken around the world and people in lots of different countries practise judo. Judo is the second most played sport in the world with only soccer having more players.
The judogi (or the uniform) is made from heavy weave to withstand the physical strength of the person practising the throws and the grappling techniques. When a person starts to learn the art of judo they begin on a white belt. After some time and practice they graduate to the next belt which is yellow and so on and so on through a number of different coloured belts which are orange, green, blue and brown. Then the last colour, which every judoka strives for, is their shodan which is a black belt.
