The Kaikoura Coastal Cruisers is about to turn two years old. Kaikoura's local motorcycle club was formed in June 2008 by a group of local people that have a love of motorcycles. It started with a few coffee runs on a Sunday morning once a month with about half a dozen bikes attending, including several lady riders! Slowly more people began to join us and we decided that maybe there were enough people to form a club. We started out as people with nothing in common, and the love of motorcycling brought us together to become a family.

Over the past two years the club has grown and we now have around 43 active financial members, most of who are local and live here in Kaikoura. We are all advocates for safe riding practices and new learner riders are welcomed, with education and safety paramount.

Last year saw us doing fundraising for the Cancer Society here in Kaikoura, with a chocolate wheel and bike show, for a young man, Taj, who needed our help. This year we will be doing it all again for the local Cancer Society. This is what we originally set out to do, to become a local group of people who, in a small way, might make a difference, and we do it with pride and help where we can. We were invited to showcase our club at the 2009 A & P Show, which generated a lot more interest and a few new members.

In October of last year we held our first big event as a club here in Kaikoura. We called it the Lobster Run. This was a huge success despite the atrocious weather and unseasonable snow fall. We raised $500 which we donated to the St John Cadets of Kaikoura.

Over the course of a year we attend Motorcycle Rallies, we hold our own Mystery Rides and very soon a Scooter Endurance Ride to Reefton.

We are very proud of our local club and believe we have put Kaikoura on the map for the biker community, and we anticipate the club going from strength to strength in the coming years.
