History

Jewellery has been around for many years and has been used to show wealth and importance, individuality and culture. It is mostly made of all sorts of decorative objects which either sex can wear. It is usually made with gems and precious metals such as diamond, gold and silver. Over history, jewellery has come a long way, but still can and is being made out of almost any kind of material like stones or bones, or even plastic and nickel. The creativity and intelligence of us humans has very often allowed us to use metals and change them into beautiful jewellery. It is often altered both to suit the tastes and dimensions of a new owner and to accommodate new styles, which revolutionized jewellery over time. Because of this tendency to reset and recast, and because jewellery was sometimes not buried with people, historians do not have much actual information about stylistic trends for much of the early Mediaeval period.

Jewellery goes back thousands and thousands of years when it was often only made for people with a very high rank and importance in society to show their social status. Then they were more created for practical use than for decoration, like when a prince loses his land in war. Then it's a lot easier for all his important treasures to be made as jewellery because they are easily transportable. Also jewellery was used as a big part of trading, using it like currency and it was also passed around under the table as payment of debts.

Jewellery is a unique way to express your individuality because as we know everyone is different and using all the different styles and colours of jewellery help us to really be ourselves. A lot of people like to wear jewellery to do many things like matching their outfit with a cute accessory, wearing jewellery which complements and reflects our personalities and to show our religious beliefs. It can really show a lot about someone and their character by what they wear and how they wear it. For example, big, showy diamonds show much about the character of the person. They want to look wealthy when wearing them. When wearing jewellery in a subtle way, this shows that you don't want to show off your wealth. Some people match colours of their jewellery with colours that reflect them and their cliques.

A lot of people are generally really proud of their cultures and backgrounds. Some precious objects made for religious use have been preserved, probably because of their relative purpose and the people who have the pieces take a lot of care with them. People wear greenstone and Christ's cross to show and support their cultural or religious beliefs. I think it is great for people to be proud of what they believe in. It shows they are true to themselves.
